Susan Sauer, President of Discover Tours, was awarded the Civitas Award for Tourism Leadership from the Beaufort Regional Chamber of Commerce Visitor and Convention Bureau. The Civitas Awards celebrates leadership in various community sectors. The Latin word “Civitas” means “the condition of the citizenship.” In Roman times, the “civitates” had a primary purpose of stimulating the local economy.

Susan’s promotion of the Gullah Culture in Beaufort and visits to Parris Island Marine Base helped to increase tourism in Beaufort. The Parris Island Historical and Museum Society have made her an honorary Lifetime Member for promoting their Museum.

Susan was also awarded "Entrepreneur of the Year" by the Hilton Head Chamber of Commerce for her development a niche market. She is a sought-after speaker on the motorcoach market and has conducted several workshops for various Convention and Visitor’s Bureaus.

Sauer started Discover Tours in 1990, marketing to Senior Group Tours. As a Destination Management/ Receptive Tour Operator for South Carolina and Coastal Georgia, Susan creates tour packages for operators bringing clients to South Carolina and Georgia by motorcoach. Discover Tours packages the hotels, meals, tours, boat cruises, entertainment and attractions.
