Coastal South Carolina Lighthouse Tour
The first lighthouse in America was built in Boston in 1716. Just over fifty years later, the first beacon illuminated the Carolina coast. This was the old Charleston Lighthouse on Morris Island, South Carolina. The lighthouse we see today is actually the second structure on that site, since the first was destroyed during the Civil War. The Charleston Lighthouses were vital in leading ships into South Carolina's biggest harbor.
